Question

I saw you guys have been oppressing new authors while I was away. :) I don't have much to say on that specific subject because the last time after such discussions I ended up spending months on writing A Beginner's Guide. I wish more people pimped it so more new authors could see it, but that never happened. But oh well, I did what I could and I'm pleased because now, when someone gets accused of oppressing new authors, I can pat myself on the back and say, "Even if they mean you, they're just wrong and you know it." All my thoughts are there, including suggestions on how to package and sell your fics and how to get readership. I have nothing more to offer except continue to review and rec fics I like, no matter who wrote them.

However, I'm troubled by something else. As I read some threads yesterday, I realized that I'm doing some things differently. And now I'm worried that I'm not being as kind and as encouraging as I thought. So here is a list of my priorities and reading and reviewing habits. If you have time, please tell me: 1) Am I doing it wrong? and 2) How are you doing it?

I don't rant often, if ever. But when I'm upset, I'm really upset. I'm leaving this post unlocked, against my own better judgement, because I don't f-lock and I don't want to break that rule now. I stand by what's written here, so deal with it. I had to get this of my chest, because one of the sweetest people I know in this fandom was accused of being something she isn't.

There are a lot of elitist comms and elitist people in the Harry Potter fandom. It's only natural since the fandom is so big. People can't read everything and they would rather read something good than something bad, and considering the sheer volume of fics posted every day, they have that option. So why not use it? That said, I do not support elitism. Some comms and some people make me want to hate the human race. So, I'm sure you are all aware that elitist comms exist. However, hd_prophet is not one of them. Perhaps it used to be; I don't know. I wasn’t around before. I've been in the fandom for barely one year. I've seen people who felt slighted by the Prophet, and I know of at least one author who actually left the fandom because of this.

I'm sorry, but they were in the wrong.
